Voda na dně

Poslední část schodů je jiná. Skála je teď mokrá. Je tmavá a studená. Na dně je malá jeskyně.

The last part of the steps is different. The rock is wet now. It is dark and cold. At the bottom there is a small cave.

V jeskyni vytéká ze skály sladká voda. Polly ji ochutná. Je studená a sladká. Moře je hned vedle, ale tahle voda není slaná.

Inside the cave, fresh water comes out of the rock. Polly tastes it. It is cold and sweet. The sea is right there, but this water is not salty.

Na zem nahoře padá déšť. Skála tam nahoře je vápenec. Voda se do něj vsakuje. Jde dolů uvnitř kamene a vytéká tady.

Rain falls on the land above. The rock up there is limestone. The water sinks into it. It travels down inside the stone and comes out here.

Teď Polly schodům rozumí. Vojáci je neudělali za jednu noc. Udělali je mniši, pomalu, mnoho let. Chtěli tuhle vodu.

Now Polly understands the steps. Soldiers did not make them in one night. Monks made them, slowly, for many years. They wanted this water.
