Voda na dnu

Posljednji dio stuba je drukčiji. Stijena je sada mokra. Tamna je i hladna. Na dnu je mala špilja.

The last part of the steps is different. The rock is wet now. It is dark and cold. At the bottom there is a small cave.

U špilji iz stijene izlazi slatka voda. Polly je kuša. Hladna je i slatka. More je odmah tu, ali ova voda nije slana.

Inside the cave, fresh water comes out of the rock. Polly tastes it. It is cold and sweet. The sea is right there, but this water is not salty.

Na zemlju gore pada kiša. Stijena gore je vapnenac. Voda ponire u nju. Putuje dolje kroz kamen i izlazi ovdje.

Rain falls on the land above. The rock up there is limestone. The water sinks into it. It travels down inside the stone and comes out here.

Sada Polly razumije stube. Vojnici ih nisu napravili u jednoj noći. Napravili su ih redovnici, polako, mnogo godina. Htjeli su ovu vodu.

Now Polly understands the steps. Soldiers did not make them in one night. Monks made them, slowly, for many years. They wanted this water.
