De stad op de klif

Polly vliegt naar het zuiden, langs de kust van Corsica. Dan houdt het eiland op. Voor haar is alleen zee. Ver weg ziet ze nog een eiland.

Polly flies south along the coast of Corsica. Then the island ends. In front of her there is only sea. Far away she can see another island.

Polly draait om en ziet een stad. De stad staat op een hoge witte klif. De huizen zijn hoog en smal. Ze staan precies op de rand. Onder de huizen gaat de klif heel ver naar beneden, tot aan de zee.

Polly turns and sees a town. The town stands on a high white cliff. The houses are tall and narrow. They stand right at the edge. Below them the cliff falls a long way down to the sea.

Polly landt op de oude stadsmuur en kijkt naar beneden. De rots is wit en droog. Onder haar vliegen meeuwen. Dan ziet ze iets vreemds. Er zit een smalle lijn in de klif. In de lijn zijn treden.

Polly lands on the old town wall and looks down. The rock is white and dry. Gulls fly below her. Then she sees something strange. There is a narrow line cut into the cliff. Inside the line there are steps.

De treden gaan naar beneden, het donker in. Polly kan het einde niet zien. Polly gaat daar naar beneden.

The steps go down into the dark. Polly cannot see the end of them. Polly will go down there.
