Місто на скелі

Поллі летить на південь уздовж узбережжя Корсики. Потім острів закінчується. Перед нею тільки море. Далеко вона бачить інший острів.

Polly flies south along the coast of Corsica. Then the island ends. In front of her there is only sea. Far away she can see another island.

Поллі повертається і бачить місто. Місто стоїть на високій білій скелі. Будинки високі й вузькі. Вони стоять на самому краю. Під ними скеля довго падає вниз, до моря.

Polly turns and sees a town. The town stands on a high white cliff. The houses are tall and narrow. They stand right at the edge. Below them the cliff falls a long way down to the sea.

Поллі сідає на старий мур і дивиться вниз. Скеля біла й суха. Під нею літають чайки. Потім вона бачить щось дивне. У скелі вирізана вузька лінія. У цій лінії є сходинки.

Polly lands on the old town wall and looks down. The rock is white and dry. Gulls fly below her. Then she sees something strange. There is a narrow line cut into the cliff. Inside the line there are steps.

Сходинки йдуть униз, у темряву. Поллі не бачить їхнього кінця. Поллі спуститься туди.

The steps go down into the dark. Polly cannot see the end of them. Polly will go down there.
